Dealing with the Aftermath of Chestermere's Mid-July Storms

If you are a resident of Chestermere, Alberta, then you likely received an unwelcome surprise in the form of two back-to-back summer storms that recently walloped the city. The July 12th and July 14th storms poured buckets of rain and hail onto Chestermere streets. Social media was abuzz with images of penny-sized hail and roads that had suddenly turned into rivers.

It is estimated that 225 millimetres of rain fell during the first storm, most of it in the early morning. Around 300 homes were affected by the resultant flooding, and three homes caught fire after being struck by lightning. Chestermere had just one day to deal with flood waters and power outages before another extreme downpour covered streets in ice and knee-deep water.

Torrential rain and large hailstones can cause significant roof damage. If these two recent storms passed over the roof of your Chestermere home, then it is a good idea to survey how it fared against the elements.

You can check the condition of your roof from the ground with a pair of binoculars, or you can use a ladder to get a closer look. However, it is not advisable that you climb onto your roof after a storm, as it could be unstable. You'll want to look out for signs of damage such as dents, missing roof panels, missing or torn shingles, or broken tiles. Keep in mind that even small wear and tear, which is hard to spot with the untrained eye, can lead to deterioration over time.

If you do notice obvious signs of damage, or if you aren't too sure but don't want to risk more damaging and costly deterioration over time, then get in touch with Century Roofing Limited.
